The Brief
The client had spare square footage and wanted a real cinema — not a projector bolted onto a spare bedroom. That meant getting the room built right first: acoustic treatment, seating, joinery, light control, then the technology layered in around it.
The Partnership
This project was delivered in partnership with Cinema Luxe, the UK cinema interiors specialist — their first fit-out project in the UAE. Cinema Luxe handled the interior build: the joinery, acoustic treatment, and seating that turn a room into a cinema rather than just a dark room with a screen in it.
Custom AV handled the AV: design, supply, and integration of every system running the room.
Inside the Tilal Al Ghaf Home Cinema Build
9.4.4 Dolby Atmos — nine main channels, four subs, four height channels. That’s a proper immersive layout, not a soundbar with delusions of grandeur.
The system stack:
- Projection: JVC DLA-NZ900 — native 4K D-ILA, laser light source, the current benchmark for reference-grade home cinema projection.
- Screen: Stewart Filmscreen — the industry standard for a reason. Uniform gain, no hotspotting, built for exactly this kind of install.
- Video processing: madVR Envy — handling upscaling, dynamic tone mapping and aspect ratio management so the source material actually looks the way the projector is capable of showing it.
- Speakers: Wisdom Audio — planar magnetic in-wall and in-ceiling speakers across the 9.4.4 layout. Cache Robotics is Wisdom Audio’s official UAE distributor.
- Media server: Kaleidescape — for a film library that doesn’t depend on buffering or a home broadband connection at 9pm on a Friday.
- Control: Control4 — one system, one interface, running the room from lighting scenes to source switching.
- Network: Araknis Networks — the infrastructure everything above actually depends on. A cinema this specced is only as reliable as the network underneath it.
